Don Hale and 3 Generations of the Hale FamilyThis all-American drive-in restaurant has some of the valley’s tastiest burgers, fries and fountain drinks. Hires Big H Drive-in has been tantalizing the taste buds of Salt Lake City residents for generations. Opened by Don Hale in 1959, Hires Big H Drive-in was the inspiration of Don’s visit to Bob’s Big Boy in California. Don was taken with the concept of providing gourmet burgers, fresh-cut French fries and specialty drinks such as cherry limeade. With the 1950s culture in full swing, Hires had a family friendly atmosphere that is still present today.
In addition to burgers and fries, be sure to sample some of the Hires Big H chicken or fish sandwiches, melt-in-your-mouth garlic bread and frosty mugs of root beer. Try a local’s favorite, the pastrami burger, and you’ll feel like a native. If you’re looking for a light lunch, stop in for a fresh salad, steaming bowl of soup or chili. Top off your meal with a homemade dessert, malt or float. Taste for yourself why Hires Big H Drive-in has been in Gourmet Magazine and has been delighting the palates of visitors and regulars alike for years. Today, three generations of the Hale family work to keep the quality and great taste going strong! Where are you going to lunch today?
